Does CBD Help You Get Better Sleep?

Getting enough good quality sleep is a crucial part of an athlete’s lifestyle. Without it, the body can’t recover or adapt off the back of the hard training we put in.

That’s why finding ways to ensure we can get a good night’s sleep is critical, and CBD has become a popular supplement for enhancing restful hours.

But does CBD really help improve sleep? Built for Athletes takes a look.

CBD & Sleep: What The Research Says?

There’s a lot of people who make bold claims about a lot of areas CBD can help with, not all of which have substantial evidence to back them up.

In reality, the research into cannabidiols is still in its infancy, but there have been some promising findings when it comes to CBD and sleep. These particularly come into some of the causes of insomnia like anxiety or pain.

For example, a 2019 study looked at people who suffer from anxiety and sleep problems. They gave 72 participants a dose of CBD in capsule form and found that nearly 80 per cent reported decreased anxiety levels while 66.7 per cent said their sleep had improved.

Additionally, a number of studies have found that CBD can be useful for treating those who suffer from REM sleep behaviour disorder, which is associated with poor sleep and nightmares.

The Bottom Line

We need more research. The majority of scientists who have looked into whether CBD can improve sleep quality or duration have concluded that more studies need to be carried out.

Even those who have found that cannabidiols do help with sleep disorders have largely been unable to explain why.

If you are interested in trying CBD to see if it can help improve your sleep performance, remember that you might not feel the changes instantly. It can take around a month for it to take effect, so it’s something you need to stick with.

But there are potential dangers that come with taking too much CBD, so always follow instructions and consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
