Protein intake has become a top priority for athleten to ensure adequate recovery and improvements.

With such high demand, the protein bar industry has grown in size to £3.29bn globally in 2019, and is projected to reach nearly £5bn by 2027.

Of course, you don’t need to eat bars to get the amount of protein you need, but they can be a convenient way of getting fuel onboard after a workout if you don’t have time to prepare a meal to eat straight away.

Finding one with a good protein hit, low sugar and a decent taste can be a challenge though. So here are six of the best protein bars to try.

Grenade Carb Killa

With up to 23g of protein, less than 2g of sugar and 12 flavours to choose from, Grenade’s Carb Killa hits all the marks. The variety of options means you should be able to find one you like enough to chuck in your backpack.

Barebells Protein Bar

From Cookies & Cream to Salted Peanut, Barbells Protein Bars have some delicious flavours and is another brand that’s made specifically for athleten looking for a protein hit. Each bar packs 20g of protein and less than 2g of sugar.

Myprotein Carb Crusher

This bar from Myprotein comes in some innovative flavours and never compromises on quality. The Strawberry Cheesecake flavour, for example, comes with 21g of protein, 11g of fibre and only 212 calories.

Cliff Builder’s Bar

The Cliff Bar sells itself as an energy bar rather than a protein bar, so it comes with a higher sugar content. But if you don’t mind that, it still offers 20g of protein and is a tasty option.

OnePro Protein Bar

If you’re looking for a vegan protein bar, this option from OnePro that uses Pea protein is a great choice. It carries 20g of protein and an impressive 15g of fibre. Top flavours include peanut and cacao, and raspberry and chocolate.

Rise Bar

Rise Bar claims to be the simplest protein bar, coming with minimal ingredients and no preservatives. Their almond honey flavour comes with 20g of protein and is made from just almonds, honey and whey protein isolate.
