Training is tough. You’ve gotta turn up even when you don’t feel like doing so. When nobody is watching, you’ve got to do the work. We know the further into the year it gets, the tougher it fees to stay motivated.

Here’s 10 questions (and answers) I’ve been asked that may help you improve your training:

1. Should you lift before or after running?

A. It depends on what the priority is. If the priority is to get faster, run first. If the priority is to get stronger, lift first. Always make sure you’re correctly fuelled though, this is the key.

2. How to stay consistent in the gym?

A. Have a clear fitness goal and a clear plan. Tell people about it. Be a person of your word. Also make going and getting to the gym as easy as possible, normally this is the hardest part.

3. How often should you do interval training?

A. 2-3 days per week. If you do anymore than this you will struggle to recover.

4. What recovery tools do you recommend?

A. Sleep. Sauna. Ice bath. Hot bath. Compression boots. Massage. Stretching. Good nutrition. Hydration.

5. Do you not get bored of the gym?

A. Not if I have a goal and I’m progressing towards it. Make your training programme interesting. Train with friends or on classes. Make it fun.

6. How many hours should you train for?

A. Very person dependant. A good place to start would be 3 hours a week strength work. 3 hours per week endurance. At least 1 full rest day.

7. Whats a lesson you’ve learned you wish you knew 10 years ago?

A. You can learn something from everyone.

8. How to stay positive when injured?

A. Make getting back to fitness your goal. Take this time to enjoy the things you wouldn’t normally be able to do. Seeing friends, learning, travelling, taking down time.

9. Is it good to have protein if you’re an endurance athlete?

A. Yes, just as important as a bodybuilder, if not more. Protein is the building blocks of your body. With training we break down the body to build it back stronger.

10. How to switch off from training?

A. Go out with your mates. Watch Netflix. Play video games. Work. Whatever makes you happy.
