The Mayhem Madness has been hotly anticipated this summer but it’s been postponed until the end of August.

Rich Froning’s CrossFit Mayhem announced they would be hosting the team competition back in May after the team division was dropped from this year’s CrossFit Games due to the difficult circumstances created by the coronavirus pandemic.

It has been one of the few events to look forward to in this tumultuous season for the sport but unfortunately, the ongoing restrictions mean the week-long competition scheduled to take place in Cookeville, Tennessee has been moved back from August 2-9 to August 23-30.

The USA is currently imposed travel bans on several countries that would stop competitors from making it to the event.

Of the nine teams who received invites to Cookeville after having already qualified to the Games through Sactionals, four are affected by the travel restrictions.

And the Canadian team who qualified through the Mayhem Madness Online Qualifiers declined their invite.

It also remains to be seen if athleten will be willing to risk their own safety by heading to the country with the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the world.

We’ve seen athleten in other sports opting against flying to nations with high infection rates, such as West Indian cricketers Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer who decided not to participate in the team’s tour of England.

With these uncertainties in mind, the organisers have decided to re-evaluate the situation at the beginning of August.

In a statement they said: “We have been and will continue to pursue the creation and implementation of a world-class event for the Teams.”
