Tia-Clair Toomey has become one of the most recognisable names in CrossFit thanks to her dominance of the women’s division in recent years.

The Australian has won three consecutive CrossFit Games titles with her phenomenal lifting power and fierce competitive drive developed over many hours of hard training.

At Built for Athleten, we’re always intrigued to hear what equipment people take with them in their gym back, so it was great to see Tia-Clair share the contents of her’s in a recent video on her YouTube channel.

Tia-Clair Toomey’s Gym Essentials

The first thing you notice looking at Tia-Clair Toomey’s bag is her shaker strapped to the outside which she uses for recovery shakes as well as hydration drinks.

Moving inside the bag, she has a host of essentials that can be used day-to-day. These include a resistance band for warming up, goggles, a skipping rope, lifting straps, tape and voodoo floss. She also keeps a lifting belt which the 27-year-old fondly says has been the belt she’s used “since day one” when she was learning to lift.

Her wrist guards and knee sleeves, which Tia-Clair wears to support the joints when lifting heavy or doing high-volume work, are also among her most valued items. “[Knee sleeves] really help with a little bit of spring out of the bottom of a squat,” she says.

Lifting shoes and running trainers both also find a place in the bag, as well as some of her partner Shane Orr’s kit.

Tia-Clair Toomey’s Recovery Essentials

Tia-Clair Toomey also has a number of items stored in her gym bag to help her body cope with her training load. The bulkiest of these is a heat and vibration wrap which she says she loves to use to help ease soreness in her back.

She also keeps a vibration ball massage gun on hand to warm-up muscles before a workout and help stimulate recovery in tired body parts afterwards. “I truly believe in massage and think that if you can massage your body, loosen up the muscles, it takes a lot of the stress away from your joints and anything that’s hurting,” she explains.

A cream to help with soreness and a protein bar can also be found in Tia-Clair’s bag, as well as CBD Oil which she says she uses to help focus.
