Mastering Your Morning Routine

Your morning sets the tone for everything that follows — whether that’s a busy day at work, training, or recovering. Your routine is vital. Here are a few non-negotiables I stick to in order to have the best start to the day.

1. It all starts the night before
Prepare for the morning before bed — get your kit ready, ensure you have breakfast or food ready to take with you for the next day, and have a plan for how the next day is going to look. This way, you aren’t rushing around in the morning or starting the day stressed.

2. Aim for 8 hours of sleep
Try to get a minimum of eight hours of sleep each night. This is the only time your body truly gets to recover, and you should wake up feeling rested and ready to go.

3. Hydrate before you caffeinate
We all seem to wake up craving that first coffee, but start enforcing the rule that you can only have your coffee after you’ve drunk a pint of water. You’ve just slept for eight hours without drinking anything — your body needs hydration!

4. Fuel your day
Start the day with a breakfast high in protein, and ensure it’s a meal that makes you feel fuelled and full of energy. Pair it up with a good carb source for the best start possible.

5. Set your intentions
Set intentions for your day — whether that’s for work, training, or both. Go into the day knowing what you want to achieve, how you’re going to achieve it, and have a backup plan for if anything goes wrong.
