With widespread gym closures across the UK and indeed the world at the moment, there’s a search for new ways to train at home.

The current restrictions make this a great time to try out one of the many apps which offer you a new enjoyable and demanding workout every day.

Here, Built for Athletes breaks down five of the best workout apps.

Freeletics

This app offers free and accessible bodyweight workouts that focus on building core strength.

It’s not for you if you’re looking to use equipment or lift weights, but if you don’t much available to you at home then it’s a good place to start.

The free fitness test at the start of the programme is helpful in putting together sessions tailored for your ability too.

Nike Training Club

Free on iOS and Android, this app offers over 100 guided workouts curated by personal trainers.

You can input the amount of time you have and your goals to get personalised sessions.

As well as giving recommendations for what to do each day, the app lets you choose from a host of workout types if you don’t like what it serves up.

Asana Rebel

Although this yoga app is primarily aimed at people looking to lose weight, it has some great features which make it ideal for anyone seeking to explore yoga.

The app has a wealth of content available for free although a subscription of £9.89 per month or £47.88 for a full year will be required to access its full catalogue of material, including guided meditations.

But paying isn’t entirely essential, and the feature which lets you create your own daily plan is a nice inclusion.

Abs & Core Sworkit

If you haven’t got an extensive weight room at home, this period could be an opportunity to focus on your core and get your abs stronger than they’ve ever been in your life.

If that’s something that sounds exciting, The Abs & Core Sworkit app allows you to choose a torso workout for any amount of time between five minutes and an hour, so it’s a great one to have handy so you can flexibly fit exercise around other things.

Aaptiv

Boasting a large library of on-demand audio-led workouts, Aaptiv is useful if you know you are prone to getting bored working out in a room on your own.

It gives you the choice of a number of sessions put together by certified trainers while also letting you listen to music playlists if you want to dictate your own training.
