7 Inspirational Sports Films

Our eyes have been drawn to screens even more frequently than usual in the last few weeks.

If you’re starting to look around for new ideas of things to watch, why not get yourself inspired and pumped up by watching a sports movie?

Here, Built for Athletes has listed seven of the best.

Moneyball

The real-life story of Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics shows how maths can be used to put together a dominant baseball team. It’s a fascinating theory that changed MLB hugely and is applicable to many other sports too.

The Fighter

Boxing is full of inspirational stories so there are a host of great movies on the sport. In The Fighter, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, a stellar cast including Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale reenact the events of Mickey Ward’s early career.

Froning: The Fittest Man In History

This will leave you itching to workout. Froning’s work rate is unreal and he’s achieved some incredible things in CrossFit. It’s a must-watch for any fitness fanatic.

Rocky

As mentioned above, boxing lends itself to the big screen and Rocky couldn’t go without a mention in this list.

Invictus

Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman star in the touching story of how the 1995 Rugby World Cup brought South Africa together as a nation. It beautifully depicts how sport transcends barriers and can play a huge role in society.

Gun Runners

The title might mislead you a little with this documentary. It follows the lives of two former Kenyan tribal warriors and cattle thieves who turned their back on their old lives by giving up their guns and pursuing careers as marathon runners.

Cinderella Man

Russell Crowe plays a boxer in the 1930s who works as a labourer during the day but manages to cause a huge upset in the boxing ring, coming out of retirement to beat a rising young contender. Following the victory, he decides to start training again full time.
