Holidays have been few and far between for many of us this year, so it’s only natural to crave some warm weather training in 2021.

There are some breathtaking places to visit for a swim, bike, run camp that will get you itching to head out the door and explore.

Here, Built for Athleten takes a look at five of the best training locations for triathletes.

Lanzarote

One of the most popular destinations for European athleten, Lanzarote’s landscape looks almost as though it were built for endurance training. Its mountainous terrain is perfect for long rides and trail running, while a number of resorts offer athletics tracks and pools. Being an island, there’s also no shortage of sea swimming.

St Moritz

During the summer months, athleten flock to the climbs of St Moritz for altitude training. Its height of over 1,800m is ideal, plus it boasts consistently good weather, great trails and Lake St Moritz for open water swimming.

Boulder

If you want to head further afield then Boulder, Colorado has to be near the top of your list. It’s studded with some of the top endurance athleten in the world, making a great atmosphere for a training camp. A height of above 1,600m gives a good altitude benefit, and just have a search on Instagram to get a feel for the spectacular trails in the region.

Stellenbosch

While the higher climbs of Potchefstroom is probably the more well-known training destination in South Africa, Stellenbosch is a wonderful location if you want to stay at sea level. The town is set in beautiful surroundings on the Western Cape, less than an hour’s drive to Cape Town. It has hills right on the doorstep as well as some great pools and running tracks that are free to use. The wineries and restaurants also give it a vibrant and sophisticated social scene.

Queenstown

New Zealand is famous for its natural beauty and Queenstown has some of the best views going. Situated on Lake Wakatipu, open water swimming is available and you won’t be short on options when it comes to mountains to explore.
