A stable and good quality pair of lifting shoes can make a big difference to how you feel in the gym.

You want to have confidence in what you’re wearing so you can commit to each lift and not worry about losing your footing or picking up an injury.

Other types of trainers that are designed for running don’t always give you what you need when you’re performing lateral movements in the gym.

Finding a durable pair of lifting trainers can be tricky, but here are five of the best pairs to consider in 2022.

Under Armour Charged Commit 2

The Under Armour Charged Commit 2 is one of the cheaper options but still offers solid stability and comfort. It’s a good looking shoe if you want something stylish too, and the leather in the upper unit means it doesn’t wear out too quickly. The sole has decent grip, making it unlikely that you’ll be slipping around the place.

Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2

The latest iteration in the Metcon range is a solid choice of lifting shoe. If you want something versatile that will support you while using weights, but can also adapt to HIIT workouts and short runs, this is a good option. It’s good looking and the signature Nike React foam provides some cushion while also being stiff enough to put force through.

Nike Metcon 7

The slightly older Metcon 7s are still a great choice and can be found slightly cheaper than the newer Turbo 2s. Nike call the sole unit the Hyperlift heel, which gives good support for weight lifting and also brings plenty of traction. It’s another good looking choice that comes in plenty of colourways but won’t break the bank.

Reebok Legacy Lifter 2

This shoe is made with Olympic lifting in mind. It was designed with the help of CJ Cummings, Gold medal winner at the 2016 Youth World Weightlifting Championships. They’re noted for their comfort and stability, with a robust upper unit that won’t budge through complex movements.

Nobull Trainer+

The Nobull Trainer+ is a truly versatile premium CrossFit shoe that’s comfortable, durable and stable. It’s trendy enough to wear throughout the day and is sturdy enough to use for weightlifting whilst also soft enough to adapt for jumping and landing. It’s not the cheapest option on this list but does offer good quality and a number of colourways.
