Lasha Talakhadze has released a video of himself snatching 223kg, the heaviest barbell snatch ever filmed.

The 27-year-old Georgian released the video on his Instagram channel, where he is seen snatching the barbell with minimal fuss.

Talakhadze also posted a video of a 265kg clean and jerk from the same session, giving a spectacular total of 488kg which would be a world record if performed in competition.

There is speculation the 6’6” giant is building up to a snatch of 225kg or even 230kg when he competes in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.

The mark of 223kg already eclipses his own world record of 220kg performed at the 2017 World Championships in California, and this is the second time he has improved that number in seven months after he released footage of a 222kg snatch in September 2020.

Talakhadze has revealed he wants to be the first man to total 500kg at a weightlifting event, and with the current numbers he’s putting out the super-heavyweight Olympic Champion looks on course to achieve that if he continues his rate of progression.
