A number of local CrossFit boxes across the UK and the world are putting various measures in place to combat the Covid-19 outbreak.

Whether it’s extra cleaning of equipment, ensuring members wash their hands before and after sessions or even closing completely, almost all affiliates have been affected.

And the Coronavirus has impacted the elite competition calendar as well.

The Atlas Games that were meant to take place last weekend in Canada, the West Coast Classic (USA), the ELFIT Championship (Egypt) and the Italian Throwdown have all been postponed without a new date being given.

Sanctionals to have been pushed back to the summer include the Rekjavik CrossFit Championship (Iceland), the CrossFit German Throwdown, the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge (USA), the Asia CrossFit Challenge (China), the Rogue Invitational (USA) and the Down Under CrossFit Championship (Australia).

That’s 10 Sanctionals in total that have been moved due to the Coronavirus.

The next competition due to take place this season is the Madrid CrossFit Championship on May 22-24, but with Spain having declared a state of emergency, it’s almost certain to be postponed as well.

Event organisers in the Spanish capital have said they will make an announcement about their plans on April 3.

With regards to the CrossFit Games, so far the competition is still set to take place between July 29 and August 2.

However, organisers have addressed the situation by issuing this statement: “At this time, with the CrossFit Games more than four months away, event planning procedures include patient observation of the coronavirus (COVID-19). If circumstances closer to the event require action, our teams will coordinate with local authorities and share relevant event information as appropriate.”

Like the rest of the world, the CrossFit community will be waiting to see how the virus spreads over the coming months.
