CrossFit have announced a big shakeup to the Games calendar this year.

With all the changes, it’s become pretty confusing how you actually get to the big event next summer.

To clear things up, here’s a rundown of the qualifying process for men, women, teams and age-group athletes.

The Open

Individual athletes first need to finish in the top 10 per cent on their continent in The Open, which will take place across just three weeks - down from the usual five - from March 11th.

Teams will only have to place in the top 25 per cent on their continent.

Age-group athletes will need the top 10 per cent of their category worldwide. They will then go straight to an online qualifier where the top 20 in each age group will progress to the Games.

Quarter-Finals

Individuals and teams who meet those criteria will move on to the quarter-finals which will be held online. This will take place over the course of a single weekend in the week of April 5th for individuals and April 19th for teams.

Criteria to progress is different on each continent, as we explain below.

Semi-Finals

Athletes will then move on to the semi-finals, each of which will contain 30 individual men, 30 individual women and 20 teams. In Europe there will be two semi-finals, so you must place in the top 60 individuals or 40 teams at the quarter-final stage to qualify. There will be four semi-finals in the USA as well as one in Asia, South America, Africa, and Oceania respectively. These will take place in person over four weekends.

The top five men, women and teams from Europe and North America will be awarded a place at the Games, as will the top three from Oceania, the top two from Asia and South America, and the top one from Africa.

Last-Chance Qualifier

Men and women who finish within three places of a qualifying spot will be able to compete in the Last-Chance Qualifier from June 28th to July 4th. The top two from each division will get an invite to the first day of the Games in late July.
